This is a reveiw for FFXI for the PC. This Review is only by Steve.
FFXI is new grounds for Square Enix. It is the first online Final Fantasy game ever. I love it. It doesn't have the plot of the others, (Still better than FFVIII's plot, heh heh...) but it has an optional plot.
You get to choose from 5 species they are Hume, Elvaan, Mithra, Tarutaru and Galka. And in the beginging of the game you won't see too many monsters, but the ones you will see are: Orc, Yagudo, Quadav, and Goblins.
The music is another subject... It shames the name Final Fantasy. Turn the music off if you don't like it. Final Fantasy victory fanfare. You know, when you win a fight, and the characters dance it plays. In this it's only the first part of it and just when you gain a level. Good thing it doesn't count as music!
Remember the birds? Chocobos! You need to play for a while to ride one. Want more than six jobs? Good! You get more after you do some quests for each one. Bad news is it's a rather high level. (Level 30.) It's worth it though.
Battles are simple to figure out, as long as you can struggle through the controls... NOOOOO!!!! The worst part of this game is the controls. In the PC version (Don't have PS2 version... Or a PS2 for that matter. Mike's got one.) you have to use the number pad to move around... That or the crappy mouse movement. You can change it somehow, but I never did. I use a combo of the mouse to click with and the number pad to move.
Last, and most importantly, the items! The shops around town are worthless. Only use them for selling your junk. The real way to get stuff is the Auction House. Players put items up for sale and the first person to bid at or above the set price gets the item. You can make some good money this way.
Advantages:
+Music can be switched off!
+Gotta love those cat girls
+(Eventually) Getting to ride the Chocobos
Disadvantages:
-Controls
-Shops suck
-Music
